Sampson is a bearded dragon.
Like all bearded dragons, he's getting treated with laser.
Okay, maybe, not like all bearded dragons.
This is a first for us too!
Sampson fell out of the cat tree in his house, and, maybe, a rather large dog accidentally stepped on him.
After that incident, Sampson lost the use of his back end.
Since we have taken care of quite a number of dogs for this family, Sampson was brought to K. Vet for a check.
Dr. Hougentogler and I agreed that the x-rays showed a fracture in Sampson's spine, near the bottom of his rib cage.
We had few care options to offer Sampson.
I'd guess that most veterinary offices would have no care options to offer Sampson.
We agreed that laser was the best option.
Since Sampson is a lizard, we had to make special adaptations to our laser approach to suit his needs.
The laser will encourage as much healing as possible in the area of the injury.
It will also decrease any swelling that might be occurring in Sampson's spine in that area.
The goal is that with this healing and decreased swelling, Sampson will be able to recover back end function.
Only time will tell if his body can manage this amount of healing.
Sampson seems to have picked the right people!
