Kayo presented to us at the beginning of February for his annual physical, and concerns about severe separation anxiety due to the loss of a housemate. During Dr. Harb’s examination, she had found that he fractured one of his upper canine teeth. After discussion between the owner and Dr. Harb, they came to realize that the fractured tooth was likely caused from the anxiety of being left alone in his kennel. We scheduled a Dental TEAM for Kayo to extract the fractured tooth. We also discussed the use of natural pheromones and other ways to help with his separation anxiety.
Once Kayo was anesthetized, we did a thorough oral exam and dental radiographs. During the oral exam, we found three fractured canines and a fractured premolar, as well as other abrasions to Kayo’s teeth. We extracted the fractured teeth and Kayo recovered wonderfully. We will continue to work on Kayo’s separation anxiety in hope he will become more comfortable with being left alone.
