Diets

Keep your Pets healthy and fit

Here at K. Vet we recommend the proper way to feed your pets based off cold hard facts. We also offer a list of food to nourish your pet in the way you please, whether it is a raw food diet or just a vet recommended diet. We encourage pet owners to follow these diet guidelines and to come in for a consultation to ensure the proper nutrition for your pet.

Dogs are omnivores and do better with a variety of foods in their diet. Choose 2-3 brands of dog foods to rotate through every 1-2 months. Always mix the new food with the old food for a few days on the change over to insure you don’t upset your dog’s digestive tract.

When changing the food use these proportions:

¼ new food mixed with ¾ old food for 5-7 days, ½ and ½ for 5-7 days, then finally ¾ new to ¼ old food. If upset stomach occurs, increase the transition a few more days.

Cats are carnivores. It is the most important thing to keep in mind when considering what to feed them. Cats need to eat a large amount of meat for the high protein and fat. When choosing a cat food, check that it meets the standards set by the American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), which ensures that the food meets at least the minimum nutritional needs of your cat.

If you do need to switch from one food to another, introduce the new food gradually in small amounts over a week. This helps prevent your cat from rejecting the new food outright and lessens the risk of upsetting your kitty’s stomach.
